Challenges for EarthBound

If you're bored after beating EarthBound and don't know how to make another playthrough more interesting, take a look at these suggestions.

  • Play the game using only the most recent character. For example, when Paula joins you, have Ness defend every turn and if he collapses, don't revive him. If everyone collapses, run from every battle until you can revive the most recent member. When Poo leaves the party, use Jeff.
  • Go the whole game without buying anything. Try to spend as little money as possible.
  • When Paula joins you, try to keep the Bear Doll alive for as long as you can.
  • Don't ever give anyone equip-able items. Also, don't use weapons - fight with yer hands! Example: Don't give Ness the baseball bat or Poo the Sword of Kings.
  • Play without looking at the screen. To expand on this, play without any sound. In fact, go for the full Tommy experience and don't talk to anyone.
  • Give all your characters the same name. ;)
  • Try to only have your picture taken when needed (there are only three necessary photos).
  • You can also try to have every possible photo taken. Go for the gold in the Olympics!
  • When you finish the fight with Giygas and escort Paula home, go everywhere on the bicycle, and I mean everywhere.
  • Sell the For Sale sign, or better yet - never buy it.
