The Dark side of the Earth(Bound)

(rated PG -13!)

Although Earthbound is commonly considered a kid's game and it is rated K-10 (E in our modern system), the game has some underlying tones that children wouldn't get. This isn't just risqué stuff; this is 'mature' stuff, such as kidnappings, sacrifice, dogmatic religions, and IRS jokes. Read more to find out.

Zombie Woman: Wearing almost nothing, she leads you into an empty hotel room. With Ness following behind. Suspicious? She is often called the Zombie Prostitute by fans. This is unrelated, but I wonder why she wears those sunglasses.
Ness' Mom's Soap Opera: "Well, my soap opera is getting to a really steamy part, so I'd better let you go." Enough said.
"Carpainter wants a girl?: No, not like that." Said by one of Carpainter's followers explaining why Paula was kidnapped.
Fetus Theory : Hey guys, I really mean that PG-13 tag up there. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just skip this part.
I don't have the image on hand, but this is a well-known and often ridiculed theory that Giygas' lair and the Devil's Machine are all various corresponding female reproductive parts, with giygas being the fetus. Wait a minute, that makes Ness and co Abortionists. Uh, yeah. It was weird. The image says that Giygas attacks purely out of self-defense and that Pokey's words are a lie. It came from some imageboard. Nobody really takes this seriously, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Magic Cake: This is apparently a reference to psychedelic drugs. Magic cake? Which makes you have visions of a boy in the clouds? Uh, yeah. I've never done drugs and don't plan to, so I can't confirm this with first-hand experience, but it sounds pretty trippy to me.
Shrooms?: Credit goes to FindKenshi on GameFAQs for this. I never thought it might be suspicious until he pointed it out:

FindKenshi It's not just so much the "mushrooms that make you feel funky" or even that a boss is named "SHROOOOOOM!!" but the fact that there is a guy in a hospital who will give you $50 for that mushroom, which makes the reference complete... for those who didn't know, that is the common street price for a dose of that... but I don't know that from first hand experience. I have to know these things when you're a King.

Moonside : The way you find this place is suspicious enough (peeking in through a cabinet only to have everything melt away), but then you get a place with weird colors and melting clocks? What is this?! Another drug reference (as everyone thinks?) Possibly. You wake up and a monkey says you were wandering around the warehouse with a vacant look in your eyes. Think of substances that can cause you to wake up with a glazed look (other than doughnuts!)
Blue Blue *evil cackle*: Originally, those crazy cultists didn't have that white pom-pom on the end of their hoods. They had HH for Happy Happy on the forehead, which was removed. It is suspected that KKK resemblances are to blame. The way these guys don't want outsiders to learn anything about their cult unless they join, don't they remind you of another cult?
