Cheats, Glitches, and Explanations
On top of Old Oakey! (Stand on a tree)
To execute this code, first have a Pokemon that can cut and the Cascade Badge (the second badge). Then find a tree. Cut it down. Stand where the tree was, and save the game. Now reset the game (turn it off and load the file again) and you will find that you are on top of the tree!
Why does this code work? Well, I believe that the programmers put a little code in there or something like this so that whenever cut a tree, and you turn off the game or leave the town, when you return, the tree will have grown back, or something similar. I believe that the code I mentioned is the key element. When the tree is cut down, the code prepares for regenerating it when the character leaves the town or resets the game. When the character stands on the tree spot (where the tree is located) and resets the game, the tree is regenerated. However, since the character is on the tree spot, is has to go somewhere. So the game simply puts the little sprite on top of the tree sprite! You can move off the tree, but you can’t climb back on top!
This code will not work in Ruby/ Sapphire/ Emerald or FireRed/ LeafGreen. It's nice to know they care about fixing stuff, but this was always so much fun to do... <.<
Yellow Only Alert! Break Dancing Pikachu! (Dancing Pikachu)
Sorry, Red and Blue people, this is Yellow only. To execute this code, go to a town with a large ledge and a path into the town going through the ledge, somewhere like Viridian. Go to the ledge, and jump one space down. Pikachu will be on the other side of the ledge! Don’t panic or move, because that will ruin the code. Just look at Pikachu DANCE around. He may even boogie to the left and right! Not really useful, but creepy.
Why does this Code work? No really complicated stuff this time, but I think that this is an Easter egg (A small little snippet that the programmers put into the game that has no real purpose, but is often hard to find) This is a very well hidden Easter egg, as who in their right mind would just sit there watching Pikachu just… move? Whoever found it has quite an imagination, as it looks more like random shaking than dancing.
The Legendary Missingno! OMG t3h gl1tch1n3ss! (The Missingno Cheat)
Sadly, this is Red/ Blue only. Aww... Anyway, I don’t think I need to explain this, since nearly everyone knows this cheat, but:
- Well, first check that you have a Pokemon that knows FLY.
- Second, talk to the Old Man in Viridian. Yes, that Weedle Guy. Watch him throw a Pokeball and capture teh Weedle!
- Fly away to Cinnabar (yes, His presentation was that awful) and surf on the Right Coast! (East Coast, I believe, but just surf on the right, on the half-water half-land part!) Surf on the Half water, Half Land part, until you see a Pokemon! Watch your Jaw drop as you see the amazingly high level! The Species and Level corresponds to your name.
- Run away, and keep on surfing. Eventually…
- You will see a grey mass of Pixels! Or a ghost Pokemon! Or a fossil! The name will be Missingno! Or M.
- First of all, FEAR IT! Then, gaze at it! Then catch it! \par
- Well, not really. It will permanently screw up your hall of Fame, so Only catch it if you don’t care about the Hall of Fame!
- No matter what you do, the 6th item in your bag will be duplicated by 123! Or something like that. A weird symbol will appear besides its name.
Why does this code work? It's on Tema Rocket's Rockin...something about the old man and the values of the name. ALSO, PhoenixSong had a unique experience with Missingno! She told me the experience and no one else had this info, so it's something exclusive to CC! ^^
\parJapanese Pokemon Blue Missingno
Note: Most of the information here is from observation, and I do not know how to perform this glitch. Most of the information here comes from Whimsy of TCoD and some googled pages. I'm not sure if it shows up in Japanese Red and Green.
Japanese Missingno (Ketsuban) isn't found through surfing on the coast of Cinnabar. It is gotten through the Extended Mew Glitch (where you train your first Pokemon to have a special corresponding with the Pokemon you want to get and fight a Ditto after a trainer), but I don't know which Special is the one needed. Ketsuban can use Mist and does turn the 6th item into 128 (?) copies. Apparently, it has many of the glitchy side effects caused by Missingno (like trainers facing the other way). It has moves which consist of TM and then a number (TM 28, TM 41, etc.) One of these is an Explosion which does not faint the user!
The following images are of Ketsuban in Pokemon Blue, Japanese Version, obviously. They are used with permission from Whimsy.
- The Sixth Item multiplied by 128 (?)
- Wild Ketsuban Appeared!
- Ketsuban's Icon is a young man
- TM1, a normal-type move, misses three times
- A list of moves: Mist, TM08, TM14, and TM01
- The stats of Ketsuban. It has Rhydon's cry
The Mew Glitch
*in a commercial-like voice* Yes, now you TOO can have your VERY OWN MEW! But how? Just follow these EASY steps, and soon, you'll get a MEW!
- You must be able to fly.
- You must not have battled the Gambler near Cerulean or the Youngster on Nugget bridge with a Slowpoke.
- Walk into the underground thingy, and save before you exit.
- Go outside, press start before the Gambler sees you, and fly away into a dream... Actually, to Cerulean.
- Walk in front of the Slowpoke guy, but he must walk up to you. Beat him.
- Go to Lavender.
- Head to the left to the exit.
- The start menu will POPUP.
- BOOM! Press B, and a wild level 7 mew will appear. Since you’ll gain no experience beating it… catch it. Big DUH.
Why does this code work? Go to Gamefaqs, go to the Pokemon Red or Blue section and look for a walkthrough by a person called TheScythe. Make sure it has Mew Glitch somewhere in the title.
Glitch City of DOOM!
Well...
First, go to the Safari Zone and walk around until you have about 70 steps left, then exit. When the guy asks you if you are leaving early, say 'no'. Then exit again, and once again say 'no'.
When you are back in, save and turn off your GameBoy. Then turn it back on and exit. The first glitch will come up, because when you exit, instead of asking if you are leaving early, he will ask if you want to come in, like you just arrived. Absolutely make sure you say no.
Then fly to Cinnabar Island and surf up and down on the right side where it's half water and half land until the P.A. System of the Safari Zone sounds. You will be warped back to the exit of the Safari Zone. Exit and Fuscia City will have been transformed into a Glitch City.
Why does this glitch work? No idea. At all. Presumably, the game is confused because you're not in the Safari Zone, which is where you should be.
