How to survive using Sweet Honey
Sweet Honey is a fourth-generation thing introducted to make up for the loss of Headbutt. Interestingly enough, Sweet Honey was apparently going to be introduced in the second generation, but it was never implemented. If it's going to work
There are 6 pokemon which can only be gotten through Sweet Honey (Burmy, Combee, Cherubi, Munchlax, Heracross, and Aipom) and the most common sweet honey Pokemon are Silcoon and Cascoon. If you want to try and get any of these 6 Pokemon, here are tips to survive a boring 12-hour wait.
*grumble* Whose idea was it to replace Headbutt with Sweet Honey? It's poorly done. Headbutt is free, but Sweet Honey is not. You can use Headbutt as many times as you want, but you have to buy each jar of Sweet Honey. You can use Headbutt on any tree so long as it's a pine tree, but Sweet Honey can only be used on orange trees. You have to wait 12 hours for a Pokemon who might not even show up with Sweet Honey, while the results of Headbutt are instantaneous.
- Skip the 12-hour wait and just set your clock to be 12 hours ahead on the DS. I haven't tried this yet, so I'm not sure if it works. Hurray, laziness!
- Use an alarm. The DS has an alarm, I think, but I'm not sure how it works. A real alarm is also good. If it's midnight when you slather honey, then it should be noon when the Pokemon arrives.
- To pass the time, you can obviously continue playing Pokemon. You can play another game. Do work that you have to do. Take a bath. Fall asleep. (don't sleep through the time when the Pokemon appears, though!) Take a jog, write a novel, climb Mt. Everest, run a marathon, learn a language. Whatever you can do for a long time without getting bored or too into it - it wouldn't be fun if you missed the time when your Combee appeared, right?
- If you slathered multiple trees and can't remember where they are, the Poketch has a function to help you - the Marking Map. It has 6 symbols with which to mark the map. When you slather honey on one tree, you can mark it on your map and then move on to another and repeat. You get this application by talking to the president of the Poketch company after getting your third badge.
- If you haven't gotten your third badge yet, you can do it the old fashioned way and write it down on a piece of paper.
